2023 “Live Like Duke” Scholarship Recipients
The Duke Carrillo Foundation is proud to announce its 2023 Live Like Duke scholarship recipients. These young men and women are academic and athletic stand outs who exemplify what it means to Live Like Duke. This year, the foundation awarded 8 scholarships to graduating seniors from Lewisville Independent School District. Congratulations to all recipients!
Allison Gesino
I am so thankful to The Duke Carrillo Foundation and the doors that the scholarship will open for me! I am inspired by Duke’s unmatched integrity, leadership, and commitment, and I hope to take a small piece of him with me in my next steps. I plan to utilize the scholarship to cover book costs at Texas A&M University next fall.
Christian Van Klein II
I am very humbled to receive the “Live Like Duke” scholarship. I plan on continuing Duke’s Legacy of giving back to the community, nation, and all those he came in contact with. I have committed myself to pursue excellence and always the best I can give. I will continue to do everything I can to make a difference and grow those around me. All while continuing my effort to “Live Like Duke.”
Jeremy Olive
I am honored to receive the Live Like Duke Scholarship and extremely thankful to the Duke Carrillo Foundation for this opportunity. I will be attending The University of Oklahoma majoring in Aviation and this scholarship will help me live out that dream. Duke’s life is an inspiration to people everywhere about what it means to be selfless and serve others. I will continue to strive to be a leader in my community and to Live Like Duke.
Kevin Koonce
Receiving a scholarship from the “Live Like Duke” foundation is an incredible opportunity to pursue my engineering educational goals. This scholarship will significantly impact my academic journey by providing me with the necessary financial support to pursue higher education. As an aspiring engineer, this scholarship will help me to strive for further education and gain a deeper understanding of aspects of engineering. It will allow me to pursue courses and research opportunities that I might not have been able to afford otherwise. Overall, receiving a scholarship from the “Live Like Duke” foundation will be a significant milestone in my academic journey. I am confident that it will help me achieve my academic and career goals in engineering.

I would like to thank the Duke Carrillo Foundation for this scholarship as it will support my college education and furthermore my career. I am very grateful to have been awarded the Live Like Duke scholarship. I look forward to continuing his legacy by working hard, setting future goals, and being a leader as a student athlete at the University of West Alabama in the fall. This scholarship will help with the costs of attending the Sea Lab for some of my marine biology courses. I will always remember to Live Like Duke!
