Do I need to be a citizen of the United States to apply for the Fly for Duke scholarship?
Yes. If selected for a Duke Carrillo Foundation Fly For Duke scholarship, proof of United States citizenship will be required. Examples are a current United States passport or certified copy of United States birth certificate. A valid photo ID will also be required.
What if I have started training somewhere else?
If you have started training for your private pilot’s license prior to applying and receiving the Fly for Duke scholarship, you will not qualify.
What are the age requirements?
Currently the age requirements are 17-24 years of age at time of application for the Fly for Duke scholarship.
How are the Fly for Duke scholarship funds distributed?
Flight school and training is broken into phases within the Fly for Duke scholarship. Funds will be distributed after each phase of training and mentoring. Reimbursement will be made after mentor has signed off and receipts have been provided to the Duke Carrillo Foundation.
Is there a deadline by which I must complete my private pilot’s license?
Yes. Training must be completed by May 1, 2026.
When will I be assigned a mentor?
A mentor from the Duke Carrillo Foundation will be assigned to you immediately after notification of receiving the Fly for Duke scholarship.
Can I use the Fly for Duke scholarship for online training, in person training, and flight training?
Yes. As long as all training is at an approved FAA flight school for private pilot’s license, all forms of training with that school will be accepted.
When can I apply for the Fly for Duke scholarship?
The Fly for Duke scholarship application opens on November 17, 2024 and closes February 26, 2025 at 5:00 PM CST.
How do I apply for the Fly for Duke scholarship?
The Fly for Duke scholarship will be available online starting November 17, 2024.
If I am currently enrolled in a college or university, do you still need at high school transcript?
Your most current academic transcript must be provided.
How and when will I be notified if I am chosen for a Fly for Duke scholarship?
Scholarship recipients will be notified by March 30, 2025. Notifications will be sent by provided email.
May I mail a completed Fly for Duke scholarship application to you?
No. Only Fly for Duke scholarship applications completed online will be accepted.
Are there any exceptions for late applications or recommendations?
No late applications or recommendations will be accepted or reviewed.
I was not awarded a Fly for Duke scholarship. May I reapply next year?
Yes, you can reapply for a Fly for Duke scholarship when the next application period opens.
