2023 “Live Like Duke” Scholarship

Duke Carrillo was a 2017 graduate of Flower Mound High School where he was an outstanding student as well as a two sport varsity athlete. Duke was a lifelong participant in Boy Scouts and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. He attended the Naval Academy Preparatory School after graduation from Flower Mound High School. Duke went on to become a midshipman at the United States Naval Academy in the summer of 2019 where he was pursuing a degree in quantitative economics with the aspiration of becoming a naval aviator. Throughout his life, Duke placed a high value on leadership, integrity, loyalty and service to his country. Duke passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on February 8, 2020 at the United States Naval Academy. He was buried with full military honors at the United States Naval Academy Cemetery.

The Duke Carrillo Foundation was formed with the purpose of awarding scholarships in honor of Duke’s legacy to students who exemplify what it means to “Live Like Duke.” Scholarships are available to students who are current seniors in Lewisville Independent School District, participate in sports at the varsity level, maintain a weighted GPA of 3.5 or higher, have a history of community service and a family background of military service.

The application period will begin January 16, 2023.


Completed application must be submitted online no later than 11:59 p.m. CST on February 17, 2023.

  • Current senior enrolled in Lewisville Independent School District
  • Attending an accredited college or university in fall 2023
  • Weighted GPA of 3.5 or higher
  • Provide copy of unofficial high school transcript to verify GPA requirement
  • Varsity athlete
  • Family history of military service
  • History of community service (may include participation in Boy Scouts or Girl Scouts)
  • At least one letter of recommendation from individual of your choice

“Live Like Duke” Scholarship awards will be distributed directly to the college or university in the recipient’s name.

If you are awarded a “Live Like Duke” Scholarship, please provide a photo and short impact statement to be used by the Duke Carrillo Foundation in print materials, on www.dukecarrillofoundation.org and/or the Foundation’s social media and at Foundation events.

You will be notified no later than March 6, 2023 if you have been awarded a scholarship.
